This position will serve as a Vivarium Technician for the Vivarium at VGTI Florida. Responsibilities include animal husbandry, breeding and associated record keeping. The employee will be required to maintain detailed records and maintain a clean and sterile lab environment.

This position will serve as a Vivarium Technician for the Vivarium at VGTI Florida. Responsibilities include animal husbandry, breeding and associated record keeping. The employee will be required to maintain detailed records and maintain a clean and sterile lab environment.
Duties:
- Daily animal care, maintaining a clean environment throughout the vivarium
- Animal husbandry
- Assisting other animal care technicians in cage changing
- Monitoring animals during and after surgery
- Maintaining breeding colony records
- Daily health records, diet and bedding preparation
- Other related duties, tasks and responsibilities as required or assigned by the Vivarium Manager
Minimum Qualifications:
- 3+ years of experience in animal husbandry
- Previous experience as a veterinarian technician
- Must be available to work on weekends
- US Work Authorization. Sponsorship not provided for this position.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Breeding experience is desirable
- Experience working in a BSL-2 and/or BSL-3 facility is a plus
Education:
- Completion of an accredited training program in Veterinary Technology and equivalent experience
- Bachelor's degree in a field related to biomedical research/ animal sciences is preferred
Safety:
- This position requires vaccination with licensed vaccines and will require medical surveillance. This position will require successful completion of Department of Justice security clearance for work with Select Agents as required by Federal regulation.
- Position requires handling or exposure to animals, bodily fluids, contaminated carcasses or other potentially infectious materials
- Position requires work with laboratory chemicals, chemical carcinogens or other hazardous materials.
- Position involves frequent movement to various places, occasionally involving heavy equipment and prolonged standing or sitting to operate equipment. Additionally, personnel must have the respiratory and physical capabilities to utilize battery-powered ventilated hoods & other required PPE and be able to tolerate necessary immunizations.
- Position requires handling of, contact with or exposure to research animals.
